In an effort to promote clean energy and reduce pressure on the national power grid, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has recently proposed a strong support policy for households installing rooftop solar power systems for the purposes of self-production – self-consumption – with electricity storage. This is considered a timely boost to encourage the public to access efficient renewable energy sources.
Households will receive financial assistance based on their investment, at a maximum rate of 500,000 VND per 1 kWp of total PV panel capacity, but not exceeding 2.5 million VND per household.
This policy will be effective until January 1, 2031, applicable to households that complete the procedures in accordance with Decree No. 58/2025/NĐ-CP.
Households may be entitled to short-term preferential interest rate support for commercial loans, with a maximum loan amount of 7 million VND per kWp and no more than 35 million VND per system.
The preferential interest rate support will last 3 years from the disbursement date.
Households can request technical and financial assistance during the investment, installation, and operation of the system.
The local electricity utility is responsible for guiding grid connection, managing the bidirectional system when households wish to sell surplus electricity according to regulations, and ensuring electrical safety and fire prevention.
Rooftop solar systems for households are exempt from electricity operating licenses if the installed capacity does not exceed 100 kW, but must still comply with current regulations on building permits, fire prevention, and environmental protection.
Although the maximum support of 2.5 million VND per household for rooftop solar installation may not be high, the policy is seen as positive encouragement, helping to reduce part of the initial investment cost for households.
This policy motivates thousands of households to participate in rooftop solar installation, creating a strong wave that contributes to reducing traditional electricity consumption, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and protecting the environment.
The support policy from the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade for rooftop solar installation is an important boost for individual renewable energy adoption. Households can receive direct cash support, preferential loans, technical assistance, and exemptions from licensing and taxes—making the investment in solar power systems more practical and feasible. This is not only a way for families to save costs but also a meaningful action contributing to a greener future, stable energy supply, and sustainable environmental protection.
